Chris became involved in martial arts at the age of 7 when his father introduced him to Shotokan karate. Being a forces family the training at that time was sporadic, and being at a military boarding school made training difficult.
This being a time when doing yoga meant the neighbours thought you were weird. However, it did give the chance to come into contact with unarmed combat, self defence and riot police courses. When Chris was 15, he took up karate at the Royal Hospital School, and trained there for the next 2 years, but due to a lack of interest from the other students, the classes were stopped. At this time he took up BOKB and has remained there and is now the senior instructor for the system.
During his time in the Royal Navy, he also came into contact with various styles and instructors from the UK and abroad.
In 2001 Chris took up CaneMasters, and began training. After attending and hosting various seminars, he became a Cane Master.
In 2007 when being inaugurated into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame, Chris took over CaneMasters UK from Master Robin Dawkins. He has also written several articles for martial arts magazines and has appeared in several DVD's, as well as WOMA TV.
