CaneMasters Newsletter

News Letter

We will be in Nottingham on Sunday 10th of May for a charity event hosted by the DMAA, and we hope to be in Norwich for the 16th of May and Farnborough for the 7th of June. If you would like us to post your events on the website and newsletter, let us know the details and we will be happy to oblige. Also you can add me on Facebook; I'm Chris Bird with the CaneMasters logo.
At the moment we are looking at having a DVD made concerning the cane being incorporated into classical Kata, utilising bunkai that is effective and practical. This is in the scripting stage but we hope to have a master copy by the end of the summer.
For everyone who has asked here is the new syllabus ranking tests

Beginner
In order to get started, you will be obligated to own a Cane Masters cane, an exercise band, and the first two instructional videos "Introduction to the Cane" and "Building the Foundation".
Novice
Student must be able to show proficiency of the blocks, strikes, jabs, etc. as shown on the Basic Foundation video with his/her dominant hand, as well as have a good understanding of the warm-ups and stretching program.
Intermediate
Student must be able to execute all the techniques contained in the Basic Foundation video with both hands, be proficient with the techniques and drills in the "Intermediate Drills and Techniques" video, and have a good working knowledge of the exercise system.
Advanced
At this point, the student should start teaching Beginner and Novice students. In addition, he/she should know the entire Exercise System, all the information contained in the "Advanced Techniques and Takedowns" video, and have started working on the CMIA Kata.
Black Belt
In order to pass the Black Belt rank, the student must know the CMIA kata with a complete understanding of it's contained techniques. He/she must also design 24 unique techniques and be able to describe them in writing (12 right-handed, plus 12 left-handed). The student must have attended a Cane Masters Seminar (4 hours minimum), and shall have attained a minimum of 30 hours teaching experience.
CANEMASTER / Certified Cane Masters Instructor
The criteria for passing this level of the CMIA System is the same for either designation: The student must have a minimum of 80 hours of teaching experience with the cane, have designed his/her own kata (minimum of 20 block and counter combinations), and host a Cane Masters Seminar. At the event, GM Shuey will grade the student on teaching ability as well as his/her knowledge on the entire self-defence and exercise system.

All the best Chris
